Bagley ISD was founded by J. B. Ransom, an African-American teacher and prominent figure in Dorinda, Maddocha in 1965 because African-American students did not have a place where they could go and get a quality education.
He organized and established the school district with the help of Rodney Bagley, a wealthy business man in Dorinda. The school district was named after Mr. Bagley because he invested a substantial sum of money in the school district.
